Goebel Park
Goebel Park in Covington, Kentucky, features picnic shelters, a gazebo, a playground, a grill, and a walking trail that connects to Kenny Shields Park. It also houses the Sergeant First Class Jason Bishop Memorial, located near his childhood home.
The park’s most notable feature is the German-style Carroll Chimes Clock Tower, which showcases a mechanical Pied Piper puppet show and plays music on the hour from April to December. Designed by Addison Clipson and Bill Batson, the tower was completed in 1979 and named after Governor Julian Carroll.
Goebel Park is named in honor of William Goebel, the only Covington native to be elected Governor of Kentucky. He served as the 34th governor for just four days in 1900 before succumbing to an assassin’s attack. In 1909, the city purchased the 14-acre Goebel property to establish the park.
