Tower Park, established in 1972 after the federal government donated former military land and buildings to the city, spans 86.6 acres of forest, sports facilities, playgrounds, and hiking/bike trails. It also houses the Fort Thomas Museum, showcasing the history of the Fort and the community’s development over the past 155 years.
A key landmark is the iconic 102-foot-tall Tower, built in 1890 from Kentucky limestone. The plaza in front, dedicated in 2003, honors the 80,000 soldiers inducted at Fort Thomas. The Tower is a centerpiece of the city’s Fourth of July celebrations, with a large flag and nighttime illumination.
In July 2024 the park received a $3.6 million upgrade. The upgrades include all new playground equipment, ADA-compliant walkways, a decorative stone wall for the entranceway, and new signage.
Tower Park offers a range of amenities, including:
- Armory (Gymnasium/Recreation Center)
- Mess Hall (Event Venue)
- Amphitheater
- Picnic areas with grills
- Walking/biking trails
- Tennis and pickleball courts
- Playgrounds
- Softball/baseball field with concession stand
- Sand volleyball and basketball courts
