General James Taylor Park Upgrades

Preliminary design work has started on General James Taylor Park in Newport, with potential improvements totaling $17 million. The plans include new amenities such as walking paths, picnic areas, a dog park, a pavilion, and tennis and pickleball courts. The project is a collaboration between the city and Corporex, seeking $11 million from the state’s legislative budget. As the land is city-owned, Newport must approve the final plans before construction begins.

The improvement project includes relocating the iconic World Peace Bell from York Street to General James Taylor Park. Since its installation in January 2000, the bell has stayed in its original location, but moving it to the park would increase its visibility, even allowing it to be seen from Cincinnati.
